iPhone nano: imgination?

iPhone Nano rumors date back to the launch of the original iPhone, when a financial analyst predicted that Apple would have a slimmed-down version of the iPhone out for the 2007 holiday season. That obviously didn’t happen, and other reports this summer and more recent speculation about a $99 4GB iPhone to be sold at Wal-Mart have kept the rumor alive.

If Apple does release an iPhone Nano all the apps on the app store won’t work. They will be too large. Of course they could add something in xcode to build two versions of an app a full size one and a scaled down nano version. However all the ui elements such as buttons would then be smaller and more difficult to touch. I can’t see a way around this.
That leaves one conclusion; apps will not be available for the nano and it would be like a smaller version of the original iphone. It could also maybe be pay as you go.
I don’t see apple coming out with this product though. The current price is already very cheap and makes the phone very accessible.
