Skype Breaking VoIP

Skype-ing All The Way

Voice over IP or VoIP is the future of communication in coming 3 to 4 years. Days are not far away, when typing would be considered boring and hectic and people would rather prefer talking instead of keeping their backs straight and using both their hands to type in a single sentence.

E-Messengers from big giants like MSN, GOOGLE and YAHOO have tried their best to equip themselves for the coming challenges in this domain, however despite of being around for more then over a decade now, they are unable to serve as efficiently as Skype. Skype – Software Application which allows calls over the internet has made its presence felt by millions around the globe by emphasizing solely on its VoIP, video conferencing infrastructure and Architect.

Skype has taken steps not only to make VoIP cost effective but also very efficient. Using proprietary internet telephony (VoIP) network, Skype has not disclosed its application protocol and refrain from making it publically available, hence its closed-source. However, Skype works on peer-to-peer model, forming a distributed network with decentralized nodes and questioning the traditional client/server approach being used in VoIP Infrastructures largely. Peer-to-peer approach on the other hand adds further advantage making it scalable and without a costly centralized infrastructure.

Peer to Peer Approach

Alternates – That’s what user’s think off when you are not happy with the services being offered. Skype has always been up to the mark with crystal clear voice and video streaming, however Google talk did make waves launching video streaming within the browser when user logs in via G-mail account, but unfortunately it wasn’t that big of a success! Skype knew what users need, and that is crystal clear voice without any glitches or latency.
